Feldenkrais Institute to host noted speaker Steven M. Levin M.D. on May 7th, 2015

The Feldenkrais institute is excited to present an integrated evening of lecture and discussion on Biotensegrity and Dynamic Anatomy with guest speaker Steven M. Levin M.D.
Buckminster Fuller's Tensegrity model of a tension-compression structure.
We believe that Moshe Feldenkrais would have appreciated Dr. Levin’s work immensely, because it demonstrates how and why we are not separate parts, but one integrated whole.

David Zemach Bersin, Director of the Feldenkrais Institute will also teach an Awareness through Movement lesson that demonstrates the application of Dr. Levin’s Biotensegrity Model.

Biotensegrity adds to and validates Feldenkrais’ view of the body as one whole system in which all parts effect all other parts.

Open to Guild members. May 7th, 2015, 6:30-9:30 pm
The cost of $44 dollars will cover our costs.
That's 20% off the Pre-Reg cost (up to the day before the event).
Complimentary teas and cookies will be served.
Location (see map below post):

Dr. Steven Levin
Biotensegrity is an extremely potent model for helping us to understand and recognize dynamic relationships inside the body, and in movement. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Feldenkrais Institute of New York.

The Biotensegrity Model and Dynamic Anatomy

An important new model, Biotensegrity recognizes that the human body is not a stacked tower of parts, connected by muscles and joints as mechanical levers. Instead, it understands the body as a structure of tensegrity: a wholly integrated structure within a plastic biologic form, in which changes in one area are immediately reflected throughout the entire structure. This gives our body a remarkable capacity for both omni-directional stability and flexibility.

Steven Levin M.D. is a pioneer in the development of the musculoskeletal tensegrity model, or ‘Biotensegrity.’ We believe that Moshe Feldenkrais would have appreciated Dr. Levin’s work immensely, because it demonstrates how and why we are not separate parts, but one integrated whole. Biotensegrity is an extremely potent model for helping us to understand and recognize dynamic relationships inside the body, and in movement. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Feldenkrais Institute of New York.

Stephen M. Levin, MD originated the concept of Biotensegrity more than 35 years ago. He trained as an Orthopedic and Spine Surgeon , and was formerly Clinical Associate Professor at Michigan State University and Howard University. He studied General Systems Theory with noted biologist, Dr.Timothy Allen, has been closely allied with others emphasizing the work of Buckminster Fuller and its applications. Dr. Levin has published numerous papers and book chapters focused on systems biomechanics.
